One of the most neglected practices and focuses in humanity and even for Christians is the valuing of the small, weak, and unseen life. It’s the interior life. It’s the hidden life. It’s the secret life that is constantly alive. It’s the part of our humanity that will live forever and ever. This is one of the characteristics of Humanity that has been fashioned in the “image and likeness” (Genesis 1:26) of God. It is not a matter of IF we will live for eternity but WHERE and WITH WHOM we will spend eternity. The internal life is what builds and feeds the eternal life. The way we cultivate and care for the internal life will determine our eternity. Does this give reason to pause and reflect with a greater curiosity and care?
The way we think is the way we will live. Whatever we decide to give our eyes and ears to, will be what our hearts and emotions will be connected to. We have physical, emotional, and spiritual eyes and ears. As a matter of fact, our internal eyes and ears never rest. Some have described our internal life as a movie production and stage performance. We are the Lead Actors, the Director, and the front-row Audience Members all at the same time for this performance. Our internal life continues to play and perform even while we are sleeping in the form of dreams and visions. This internal life will continue on into eternity.
Living For the External Life-
We pursue food, drink, relationships, material possessions, etc. as our highest and greatest, and final rewards.
The world encourages us to get everything we can because we only live once. Make it count.
The external life is mostly concerned with popular opinion and current events and trends.
The external life focuses most of its energy on maintaining the physical, material, and visible because it's all we have to demonstrate who we are.
The external life is concerned with how everyone around them views their life.
Galatians 5:19-21 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Living For the Internal Life-
The internal life values the relationship and fellowship with Christ through Holy Spirit.
The internal life values the time requirements for digging just under the surface to discover the highest rewards and the most valuable of treasures.
The internal life values the still small voice of God who speaks to our hearts.
The internal life takes time to listen and speak to God in Heaven, taking time to read His Word (the Bible) as understanding that these are His thoughts for us.
The internal life values obedience to God and His Word as the highest expression of love back to God.
The internal life values the price that Christ paid for us to wash our sins away and to give us access in Heaven for eternity.
The internal life values a life of restrained physical appetites, knowing that this is the only way to make room for feasting on eternal food.
The internal life values serving and giving to others knowing that this is what blesses the heart of our Heavenly Father and will be rewarded by Him.
The internal life values giving everything away in order to gain true and lasting life.
John 14:19-21 Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live.20 When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.21 Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”
